Anosognosia

A condition that causes an individual to be unaware of or unable to accurately perceive their mental health condition and its effects. Anosognosia can be considered a lack of insight into one’s own state of mental health. It typically means an individual does not realize they have a mental health issue or is unaware of its extent. For example, a person may experience delusions and not realize they are delusions but instead believe them to be real.

This condition differs from denial. A person in denial is often consciously aware of a fact but refuses to accept it.
