Anorexia

Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness. It is an eating disorder characterized by restricting food, intense fears of weight gain, and distorted body image. Inadequate calorie intake and/or excessive energy expenditure result in potentially life-threatening damage to the body and metabolism. Supportive care by health care providers, structured behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and anti-depressant drug therapy are some of the methods that are used for treatment. Anyone, regardless of gender, race, or sexuality, can develop Anorexia.
